Our beginnings started with a Bible verse on a billboard along a dark Louisiana highway.
Proverbs 16:3 - I love this Bible verse...it holds a special meaning for me.
I saw it for the first time on a dark road in Louisiana during a road trip my husband and I were taking to visit my parents in Georgia. It was almost 5 years ago...early 2014. I was on the fence about starting a business. So many questions, so many risks. I had brought it to the Lord in prayer many times. Then, just like how our amazing God does, He gave me a sign... literally! While we were driving through Louisiana on this particularly dark night, something caught the corner of my right eye...a light. It was a billboard with this scripture on it! It was in the middle of nowhere and the sign illuminated the darkness. I read it out loud and told my husband, Richard, "See! God's sign!"
Shortly after we returned from our trip, I went through the process of getting my business name and license and was eager to get started. Little did I know how little I knew about starting and running a business. There were so many aspects that were new to me, and I didn't have anyone to teach me. I did a lot of research and reading, looked for business classes to take, the whole gamut. It was not easy to say the least. But then I remembered the Bible verse I saw in Louisiana, "Commit whatever you do to the Lord and your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3. I immediately prayed and committed my business to the Lord.
Amazingly, over the next two years I would see this Bible verse everywhere I went...on signs, T-shirts, in inspirational books, on social media... everywhere. It was as if God was gently reminding me about the promise in His Word. After a couple of years, I stopped seeing the verse as often.
The next Bible verse He gave me was Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Like the previous Bible verse, I would see it everywhere I went and almost daily on social media.
A few days ago, I was listening to one of my favorite Bible teachers and she quoted Proverbs 16:3. How amazing is our God who always gives us such sweet reminders, especially when we need it the most!
I continue to commit whatever I do to the Lord. In no way does it mean the road will always be easy. In fact, I have faced much opposition from the enemy trying to discourage me, trying to make me believe his lies that I will never be good enough or successful enough. But then again, what is successful? Fancy cars? The latest tech gadgets? Lots of money in the bank? Lots of material things? These things are what the world would consider as successful. But what does God see as successful? Obedience to Him even when it makes no earthly sense to us, loving people, sharing our money, time and resources with those in need, giving where we can give and being generous and cheerful when we do, and even praying for those who have hurt and offended us.
Money gets spent and possessions can be lost or turned to rust or dust, but our true treasure lies with our Heavenly Father, whose love and care cannot be measured with earthly treasures.
